8 of the strongest land carnivores
1.Bengal Tiger
Males are typically larger and heavier than females. While the former have a length of 106-122 inches including the tail, the latter measure from 94 to 104 inches in length. Only the tail is between 33 and 43 inches long. The weight of males can range between 400 to 550 pounds, while that of females is 220-353 lbs. The power of the Bengal tiger is evident when observing its effectiveness at the time of hunting. Due to the size and power of this tiger, it has no natural predators in its native area.
2.Siberian Tiger
Siberian tiger is the biggest of all tiger subspecies. It has 11 feet in length and can weigh up to 660 pounds. This powerful predator has to travel long distances in search of food, usually at night. Its striped fur allows it to camouflage with the environment, to sneak up on his prey and attack surprisingly from behind or the side, in a quick jump and delivering a knocking blow or a lethal neck bite. Tigers have large paws and sharp, retractable claws (they can hide their claws). They use them for killing of the prey
3.Grizzly Bear
An adult male grizzly bear can weigh around 340 kg with the shoulder height of 3 ft 6 inch to 4 ft 1 inch and the head & body length is ranging from 7 ft 1 inch to 7 ft 8 inch. They have perfect eyesight and excellent sense of smell. They will detect smell better than hound dog (can smell 32 km far away). A grizzly bear’s jaw pressure is powerful enough to crush a human head. It has been estimated that a bite from a grizzly could even crush a bowling ball.
4.Polar Bear
Polar Bears are the world's largest land carnivore.Male polar bear can weigh up to 1500 pounds and reach 10 feet in length. Females are two times smaller than males. Due to their large size, they have no natural enemies, except humans. Polar bears have 10 cm thick layer of blubber which keeps them well insulated from low temperature and cold water. It can swim up to 60 miles without a break and can sniff out prey up to 10 miles away.
5.Kodiak Bear
A large male can stand over 10 feet tall when on his hind legs, and 5 feet when on all four legs. They weigh up to 1,500 pounds. Kodiak bears are powerfully built with a heavy skeleton and a thick layer of muscles. The hump on their backs is a mass of muscles that aid in their ability to dig and provide a powerful striking force with their fore paws .
6.African Lion
A typical head-to-body length for males is from 184 to 208 cm (72–82 in) and for females is from 160 to 184 cm (63–72 in). The average male lion weighs around 180 kg (400 lb) while the average female lion weighs around 130 kg (290 lb). Lions are the only big cats to live in groups, called prides. They work together to defend territory and hunt. A lion’s roar is the loudest of any big cat and can be heard up to 8 km away. Lions have terrific night vision. This gives them a distinct advantage over some prey species when hunting at night.
7.Brown Bear
Males typically weigh from 480 to 535 kg and females 225 to 315 kg. Males average around 245 cm at the shoulder. A brown bear’s sense of smell is three to four times more sensitive than that of an average dog. They are also excellent swimmers and often swim for a mile or two to cross a bay or lake. Brown bears have non-retractable claws that may be as long as four inches .
8.Jaguar
Jaguars are large cats: they can weigh 200-250 pounds and reach 5-7 feet in length. Jaguars are ambush predators that kill their victims using the element of surprise. They will pierce the skull of an animal and kill it with a single bite. Unlike most cats, which kill their prey by grabbing the throat and suffocating it, the jaguar kills by piercing its prey’s skull or neck with one swift bite – demonstrating the amazing strength of its powerful jaws and impressive teeth. The jaguar has the strongest bite force of any cat and the strongest bite of any mammal.
